Kiten is located in southeastern Bulgaria, 55 km from Burgas, 170 km from Varna, 310 km from Plovdiv and 440 km from Sofia.It was founded by refugee immigrants from Eastern Thrace who settled in 1930.
In ancient times, there was a fortress on the cape itself - Urdoviza.There are still traces of it.The Romans had a station here on the coastal road called Orudiza.It is mentioned about the town that existed before the arrival of the Turks.The legend tells of the beautiful maiden "white Stana Urdovizka" who agreed to become the sultan's wife after he promised her to free the land, which she would roam on horseback from sunrise to sunset. Until now, the nearby area is called the Hasekiya, whichmeans land exempt from taxes. The stallion with which the heroic Bulgarian woman set off from Lake Mandar in the morning died of exhaustion in the evening at the small bay at the northern end of the village. The name of Atliman Bay (Stallion Bay) remained from this event.
Kitennow is a small summer resort town.The two beaches - Atliman in the north and Urdoviza in the south - are visited by many vacationers.The forests of Strandzha reach almost to the very coast and give it not only a sea, but also a mountainous character. The Karaagach River, which flows into the Urdoviza Bay, is also beautiful.A lot of fish are caught in the swamp and estuary - bream, carp, mullet.
