The town of Zlatitsa is located in the western part of the Zlatishko-Pirdop valley, at 665 m above sea level c. It is located 73 km east of Sofia, 4 km west of Pirdop and 27 km south of Etropole. Its origin, judging by its beautiful name, is Old Slavic. A lot of gold was mined here in the past. According to K. Ireček, the name Zlatitsa was mentioned for the first time in the 14th century in connection with its fall under the Turkish yoke. It is also mentioned in connection with the campaign of the Polish king Władysław III in 1443. The population of the city dispersed to Etropolsko and Tetevensko.
