The town of Troyan lies along the richly terraced banks of the Beli Osam River, where it leaves the main Staroplaninska chain and joins its half-sister Cherni Osam River to storm the first folds of the Pre-Balkans between Bukovec and Belish, at 395 m above sea level. It arose as a road settlement at an important transport geographical location on the old Roman / Troyan's road. As a focus, the roads from Pleven /70 km/, Lovech /35 km/, Sofia /180 km/, Lukovit /98 km/, Sevlievo /47 km/ and Apriltsi /35 km/ are coming together to continue as one through Troyanski passage/1565 m/to Karlovo/70 km/ and Plovdiv/123 km/. It has a wonderful park location - to the east of the Beli Osam river, where a number of hills rise parallel to it with better names than each other - Ravni pat, Goren, Sreden and Dolen Kapincho, Raikovski and Drenski heights. Capincho Hill is a natural park of Troyan. To the southeast and south stretch the hills of Chereshov Dyal, Polenitsa and Radevo, from which an attractive view of the high part of Stara Planina opens up. To the north is Yankolitsa, and along the left bank of Beli Osam are the rounded hills of White Stone, Cerito and the cone-shaped Turlata peak /556 m/, which stands out to the west of the city, which are overgrown with artificial coniferous forests. From the northwest, the majestic panorama around the city is closed by the oblong Vukovets hill /798 m/, and from the northeast - the Belishkite Heights /580-660 m/. Troyan is located 125 km from the city of Plovdiv. The distance from Troyan to Varna is 319 km.
