The city is located not far from the confluence of the Leva and Botunya rivers, at 169 m above sea level. c. It has been mentioned since 1578. During the construction of the Mezdra-Boichinovtsi-Lom railway line /1910-1913/ the Krivodol railway station was built here. The station caused a new settlement to appear, which was later a factor in its merging into one with the settlements of Krivodol and Krivodolska mahala in 1956. It is located 21 km northwest of Vratsa.
While until the construction of the railway station, Krivodol was mainly an agricultural village, it then turned into a market and commercial center with developed handicrafts and small industries - oil mill, mill, mills, etc. Grain warehouses of merchants, offices of exporters, inns, etc. also appeared near the station.
Krivodol owes its city rights /since 1969/ above all to its railway.

Krivodol is a cultural center of the settlements of the municipality and its hinterland. Here there is a high school, a technical school for mechanical engineering, a community center, a polyclinic - a branch of the Vratsa hospital.
