The town of Gabrovo is located in the Central Stara Planina, in the northern branches of the Shipchenska Planina, by the river Yantra /Etara/ and its tributaries Sinkevitsa, Panicharka and Yellow River, at an altitude of 392 meters above sea level. The climate is moderately continental, with a pronounced influence of the mountains. The average annual temperature is 10°C, and the average amount of precipitation is 881 mm - above the average for the country.
In the 17th century, a settlement named Gabrovo was mentioned for the first time, related to the hornbeam tree. It has been recognized as a city since 1860. A highly developed variety of handicrafts - mainly blacksmithing, making knives, axes, scales, rifles, blacksmithing, pottery, leatherwork, blacksmithing, pipe-making. The first larger Gaitanji workshop, which grew into a manufacturing enterprise, was opened in 1860 by Ivan K. Kalpazanov. In 1870, there were 800 charkas and 36 bagpipe makers in Gabrovo, producing a large quantity of bagpipes.
