Dulgopol is located on the left bank of the Golyama Kamchia river, in its middle course at 42 m above sea level. c. The city is protected from the northern winds because it is nestled in the southern slopes of the Rojak Plateau. The settlement-creating factors are the fertile river valley and the location crossroads. The roads from the port cities of Silistra, Ruse and Varna to Edirne and Constantinople cross here. Dulgopol lies 20 km south of Provadia, the successor of an old settlement from the Thracian-Roman era. During the Middle Ages, the roads from Shumen, Varna and Pomorie crossed here, which during the Turkish slavery, were used for military campaigns. Through Dulgopol passed the road from Poland through Ruse, Provadia to Asparuhovo, where it split: along the valley of the Luda Kamchia river through Yambol to Edirne and through the Kamchii mountain to Aytos and from there through Sredets to Constantinople. Dulgopol is mentioned in documents from 1573 and 1676. In the diary of a Polish traveler from the 17th century, Dulgopol is mentioned with its old name Enikioi /New village/, as an important road and craft settlement
