The town of Devin has a beautiful location at the foot of the Devin mountain, on both banks of the river of the same name before its mouth in the Vacha river, at 710 m above sea level. c. It is surrounded by hills covered with fine pine forests. It is located 44 km northwest of Smolyan. Until 1934, it bore the name Devlen. It was a center of logging and crafts, of small-scale agriculture. At the time of its liberation in 1912, its population was 1,085. It became the district center, but it grew slowly and in 1946 it had 2,695 inhabitants. In 1970, it had 4,886 inhabitants. And 6,419 in 1992.
In Devin, a wood processing plant, a plant for electric boilers and ironing machines, a sewing workshop, etc. were built. The resort business is also developing. A modern spa was built with water from the Beden Baths.
Agriculture specializes in the production of potatoes, greenhouse vegetables, fishponds for growing fish along the Vača River. Devin is visited by many tourists, vacationers and hunters. Here is the representative hunting farm "Izora". The starting point is to Pamporovo, Trigrad, Teshel, Devil's Throat, Snezhanka cave, the "Elephant" rock figures 4 km from Devin. Opposite it is the "Devin" HPP, part of the Dospat-Devin-Krichim cascade.
